Turning the need for improvement into a business idea.

With a multifaceted personality that has learned to balance creativity and entrepreneurship, Tasos Papanastasiou is one of the individuals who has managed to stand out in the Cypriot business landscape.

If there is one thing that defines him—and perhaps sets him apart from others—it is the motivation that drives each new beginning: the sense of improvement he himself feels his everyday life, as a person, is in need of.

Believing in the power of the team, as well as in the need for its leaders to instill in it the same passion that drives them, he has succeeded in establishing himself in highly competitive and demanding business sectors. At the same time, however, success for Tasos Papanastasiou is also a means of giving back, as he firmly believes that through social contribution he fulfills his personal obligation, as a human being, to return part of that success to society—thus giving others the opportunity to overcome obstacles and reach their dreams.

Tasos Papanastasiou’s interview with AlphaNewsLive:

You are someone who, judging by your path, does not seem confined to just one range of business activities. On the contrary, you are active in sectors that, at first glance, appear quite different from one another. Should we assume that this is also an element of your personality? Yes, I believe this is very much part of my personality. To me, entrepreneurship is not a sector; it is a way of thinking. I see situations that could function better, problems in need of solutions, and people who have potential but do not always have the opportunity to make the most of it. That is where my interest begins, regardless of the field.

The sector is simply the setting. The essence is always the same: how do you create real value? What I find particularly important about moving across different spaces is that it gives you the ability to transfer ideas and perspectives from one to another. Very often, the most meaningful innovations emerge precisely from that combination.

One of your main activities concerns the financial sector. Would you like to tell us more about this field and the services you offer at XM?

XM is the largest company in its sector worldwide and continues to grow at an exceptionally rapid pace, with the strategic goal of expanding further into other areas of fintech.

My role has always been closely linked to the company’s business development and growth, with the core mission of driving XM’s aggressive expansion. Today, that role has evolved more toward mentoring, through guiding senior executives.

Business development is a battlefield. It does not reward the hesitant or those who operate defensively. My mindset for building a winning team is aggressiveness, discipline, total alignment, and a mindset of dominance. Great success comes when the team operates with intensity and decisiveness. At this level, you either impose yourself or you are left behind.

Among your activities is also the ENA Foundation. Can you tell us a few words about how it started and what its work is?

The ENA Foundation began with a simple thought: how can we offer meaningful support to people who have dreams, but need the means or the opportunity to make them a reality?

To me, success has no real value unless it is shared. Not out of obligation, but out of an inner need to contribute and stand by others.

We founded the ENA Foundation with a deep belief in the power of collective contribution. It is an independent, non-profit organization focused on empowering individuals, strengthening social inclusion, and creating initiatives that promote cohesion.

What matters most to us is tangible impact—seeing people move forward, grow, and gain access to opportunities they did not have before. That is where the true essence of our work lies.

Cinema is also among your business activities. What services does Main Character provide, and how easy is it for someone to become active in this field?

Main Character operates in the field of film production, but for me cinema is much more than a professional occupation. It is a deep, enduring passion. I have always been fascinated by the power of a story to take you on a journey, move you emotionally, shake you, and even slightly change the way you see the world.

That is what excites me about cinema: it is not simply images or sounds, but emotion, memory, identification, and exploration. It is a living form of expression—a way of giving meaning to experiences and creating something that can truly touch people.

At Main Character, storytelling is always at the center, because I believe every powerful image begins with a compelling story. That is why one of the greatest challenges in this field is precisely this: finding the right script, the right actors, and the right locations—elements that do not simply play a supporting role, but become an integral part of the experience. It is immensely creative to be able to bring all these elements together in a way that delivers aesthetic value and, ultimately, a meaningful response from the audience.

What was the greatest challenge you faced in your entrepreneurial journey, and how did you overcome it?

Every phase comes with its own challenges, but if I had to single one out, I would say it is managing uncertainty, especially in the early stages.

When you start something from scratch, there are no guarantees. You only have an idea, a team, and the belief that it can work. There are moments when the odds are not in your favor and you have to keep going without full visibility.

What helped me was persistence, but also the ability to adapt. To listen, to learn, and to change course when necessary—without ever losing sight of the main objective.

At the end of the day, challenges are not obstacles; they are part of the process. And very often, they are what shape you the most.

What is your philosophy around leadership and team management?

Leadership means absolute commitment to the goal and the ability to transmit that commitment to the entire team. A leader must inspire, motivate, and create an environment in which people do not simply execute, but become passionate about what they are building together.

It requires clear direction, the ability to immediately recognize anything that may pull the team away from its goal, and the determination to protect that course without compromise. My passion is often expressed with intensity and an uncompromising stance, particularly when I perceive actions that could divert the team from its shared direction. A strong team is built when there is a common vision, a clear purpose, and leadership that keeps everyone aligned and committed.

How important a role does innovation play in your business decisions?

Innovation is central, but not as an end in itself. There is no point in innovating simply for the sake of saying that you do.

To me, meaningful innovation is the kind that genuinely solves problems or substantially improves the user experience.

In many cases, it is not about something entirely new, but rather a different approach to something that already exists. The value lies in how you implement it.

What advice would you give to a young person who wants to get involved in entrepreneurship?

Take risks and do not be afraid to make mistakes—they are inevitable and necessary.

How do you balance professional success with personal life?

It is not always easy, and there is no perfect balance.

What I try to do is to be truly present in whatever I am doing, whether that is work or personal time. For me, the quality of time matters more than the quantity.

Most importantly, however, there is my son. He is six years old, and I make a conscious effort to spend as much quality time with him as I can. At the end of the day, those are the moments that matter most.

Is there any new project or plan you would like to share with us?

There are always ideas and plans in progress, but I prefer to talk about them when they are more mature.

What I can say is that I am particularly interested in initiatives that combine entrepreneurship with meaningful impact.
